As far as the eye can see
composer - Sue Boland

Vocal/Instrumental Intro

Refrain        As far as the eye can see,
as far as the ear can hear,
the birds of the bush fly free
and their bright song fills the air.
And down on the forest floor
            the kiwi spreads the word,
there's room for our folk once more,
            the humans have finally heard.

Verse 1        Where is the voice of the kokako
Oh huia where is your song?
Where is the sight of the mighty moa,
            her children forgotten and gone.

Refrain

Verse 2        The forest is eerily silent here,
no ruru to cry in the night.
The cat and the ferret have spread their terror
and murdered the music of flight.

Refrain

Verse 3        The wetlands are drained for our industry
            Kahikatea stand no more;
Kotuku seeks for a place to shelter
and rimu are windows and doors.

Refrain - vocal and instrumental ending

Ian's Song
composer - Sue Boland

Verse            I just can't imagine the courage it took
To keep on seeking the light.
And finally it seems that the struggle was lost -
Perhaps you gave up the fight?
And nobody stands here in judgement,
Though we question ourselves in the end
If maybe a deed or a word left unsaid
Could have saved the life of our friend.

Refrain        You finally danced with the angel of death,
When he knocked and he found you alone.
And some may fear that my brother is lost,
But somehow I wonder if maybe he's found his way home.

Verse            When you looked in the mirror, did you ever see
The beauty we saw in your face?
You reached out to many and taught them of pride,
And helped them to take their place.
But still the shadows pursued you,
Though your lover stood close by your side,
And finally love couldn't hold you
From the pain that ravaged inside.

Refrain        You finally danced…..

Verse            I know that you faithfully followed your God;
          You tried to walk in God's ways;
Though often the comfort of peace was denied,
You clung there day by day.
I hope that I will be forgiven
If I rage at the loss of a friend,
And I trust that the love that is greatest of all
Will embrace us all in the end.

Refrain        You finally danced with the angel of death,
When he knocked and he found you alone.
And some may fear that my brother is lost,
But somehow I'm sure that he's finally found his way home.

Real Woman
composer - Sue Boland

Verse        Girl, it's time to learn you can't be like your brother,
Come down off the roof and listen to your mother
Keep your mouth shut tight, cos you don't want to look too bold.
You gotta learn the rules, or you'll be left out in the cold.

Refrain        Cos you gotta be a real woman
Got to know the rules for being charming
Got to learn the ladylike behaviour,
Then you won't be so alarming…

Verse        Put your shoulders back, it's time to work on your figure
Pray that the Lord will make your breasts grow bigger
Don't you wiggle those hips, learn to walk like the nice girls do.
You can go to a gym, but don't sweat, just have a gentle hue.

Refrain

Verse        With some makeup on you'll be looking finer
Use a little lipstick and discreet eyeliner
Got to spend some time and money on a glamorous style
But better cover those zits, or all the boys will run a mile.

Refrain

Verse        Now your wardrobe, girl, leaves a lot to desire
Get yourself some heels that are a whole lot higher
Add a miniskirt and a girdle to control the flab.
Now you can't move an inch, but the boys think you look fab!

Refrain x2
